DJ Premier ft. Rakim / Kanye West / Nas / KRS-ONE
WHERE ARE WE NOW?
Obviously we chose one of the greatest Hip-Hop collabs of all-time to make a statement...
Today's music industry is...well...very colorful and imaginative to say the least. Not necessarily a bad thing when keeping the evolution of music in mind but c'mon. We definitely crossed a line somewhere.
Some say Hip-Hop is dead but that's not entirely the case. Hip-Hop will always be a state of mind that stems from a person's upbringing or surroundings...
Now with that being said..
Original Hip-Hop spoke with meaning. Lyricism had meaning. Throughout a track the artist painted a lyrical picture of events, lifestyle, etc. Today...if it's not money, dope, cars, or the girl everybody's f****'n with, it's not a hot track. OK we get it! Thing is, the audience most of you rap to know you're not speaking truth to the mic so why should they support fake b*******? If anything, they won't stream your music or they'll just go into the closest studio to make a diss track that's hotter than your top 10 tracks you recently recorded...if you have that many.
I'm the hottest RAPPER out right now...it's not a game!
Yes we know you are...and yes it is! Don't let anyone tell you you're not DOPE. Not even the rapper you have to eventually battle. The FINAL BOSS lol...he has more IG followers than you too but don't be discouraged. You'll be ok. Don't worry about the fact that he reads books....you don't need knowledge or punchlines in this biz.
All jokes aside...
We're not going too deep into this obviously never-ending argument of 'the life of Hip-Hop' so no worries. You artists know that the majority of music you release...usually for free...is garbage and fake news. But it's ok! It's never too late to go back to the pen to actually write something that has purpose and structure.
We'll leave this with a lil' story...
But here you go anyway...
