The search by Buckingham Palace for a “Head of Digital Engagement” drives the conclusion that the 93-year-old sovereign, Queen Elizabeth II, is ready to boost her digital presence —and her followers’ numbers across her social media accounts.
The royal household is advertising for a social media expert to run her Twitter and Instagram accounts and to “maintain the Queen's presence in the public eye and on the world stage,” where she already has amazed very impressive numbers: seven million followers on Instagram, more than five million on Facebook and north of four million on Twitter. She is already a royal super-influencer.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, @sussexroyal, currently have 9.9 million followers on their Instagram account, while Prince William and Kate Middleton have 10.4 million on Instagram and 1.9 million on Twitter, @Kensingtonroyal.
The job, covering everything from state visits and award ceremonies to royal engagements, offers a salary between £45,000 and £50,000 a year, depending on experience, and the social media guru is expected to be at Buckingham Palace from Monday to Friday every week.
Benefits include lunch and 33 vacation days a year.

The successful candidate will join the office of the queen’s Private Secretary and work with the Royal Communications team overseeing the content strategy of the royal family’s various media accounts, developing digital strategies, providing digital and editorial leadership to a small team of digital media specialists and working with colleagues across the organization to improve the royals’ digital presence.

The queen wants to boost her digital presence.
Among other requirements for the job: Experience of managing and editing high-profile websites, social media and other digital formats; knowledge of best practice in all matters regarding digital communication and to make editorial judgments, develop strategies and manage wide-reaching projects, while overseeing and helping deliver day-to-day digital output.
“You'll also have to be confident using a range of content management systems, social media platforms and analytics tools. A solid understanding of the technical aspects of digital platforms and channels, understanding of html and experience of improving the usability of digital products.
Innovative and with creative flair, you'll have exemplary and compelling writing and editorial skills, and expertise in designing digital content for different audience groups, purposes and formats.
A natural communicator, influential and with a genuine user focus, you'll liaise with a broad spectrum of stakeholders on a daily basis and will drive change through collaboration.”
